Solution
∣ A ∣ = 1 ( 15 − 1 ) − 2 ( 10 − 1 ) + 1 ( 2 − 3 ) = 14 − 18 − 1 = − 5 .
adj A = 14 − 9 − 1 − 9 4 1 − 1 1 − 1 , A − 1 = − 5 1 14 − 9 − 1 − 9 4 1 − 1 1 − 1 .
(i) Since A ( adj A ) = ∣ A ∣ I , ( adj A ) − 1 = ∣ A ∣ A = − 5 1 1 2 1 2 3 1 1 1 5 . Also adj ( A − 1 ) = ∣ A − 1 ∣ ( A − 1 ) − 1 = ∣ A ∣ 1 A , which is the same matrix. So the two sides are equal.
